Mystery Stole 3- Clue 1 done

Simple as that

It’s pinned very loosely, I didn’t want to stretch it out on the tablerunner because then the runner would just bunch up underneath it. So, that is the first 100 rows done. You can’t really see the beads too well but taht is an okay thing!
This is the Zephyr wool/silk in Steel on size 5 needles. No lifelines.

Class socks, a little fancy

For the sock class I am teaching I didn’t want to do the boring ol’ ribbing for 2″ then stockinette sport weight socks. So I bought some 6/0 beads last night in a teal color and used them to do this:

Keeping the front of the sock in 2×2 rib I decided to do the back with a simple 2 stitch twisted cable every 4th row with a bead. Clog sock heels really. From the front all boring & blah but on the back, wham! All kinds of busy-ness happening! At first I thought it was just too much but now I am really liking how crazy it all looks together. Only half an inch more on the legs then to the boring stockinette foot.

You asked & you shall receive

Mouse asked, Suzanne asked, I will give in to popular demand!

Since last I showed you shoe enhancement photos there have been more buying opportunities I could not pass up. Last nights bogo purchase first (btw, total $17 for both pair)

cream linen peeps just in time for the 4th! Not that they are beach-wear but I love how 40’s patriotic they are!

black patent platforms, American Eagle brand

brown suede, more for winter but only $19 & I love them! Apapazza from Endless.com

Sorry the picture is a tad fuzzy but I wanted to show the fantastic heel on these brown patent leather & suede peep toes. I love the colored suede! And, they have the most amazing sueded footbed that is a dream to walk on. From Ross of course!

These I have been looking for for a long time. Neutral, superstrappy, almost nude sandals for the summer. Ross, again.

Chocolate brown ballet slippers with a box gathered toe.
It was so frickin’ hard to get pictures in good light in my bedroom! But I had no patience to do all this outside so you will suffer ;o)

So yeah, you all think I have a yarn problem. You now all may think it is surpassed by my shoe problem. It’s true, I admit, shoes are an addiction! But when you can get so many different styles and never have 2 of the same shoe, who can pass them up??? NOT I!

dont’ judge me, I just love shoes

Accidental first time out

Tracy & I met at BB’s this afternoon to check out what she’s got left in the shop before closing for good on Saturday. We shopped, had a nice time. Decided to meet at Starbucks before going over to Craft Essentials for beads. I park in the lot, get out & ‘zzzzziiiippp’, the zipper on my skirt totally breaks! Lucky me, I have the Unmentionables in the back (that I had totally forgotten in the pocket in my beach chair, I looked everywhere for them at the beach then at home & could not understand where they had gone, duh) of my car!

Tada! A quick parking lot change & voila! Their first public showing!

Tracy said they were cute &  now, 5 hours later, I agree! They are comfy and keeping their shape nicely. That surprises me! They stay up well with just my ribbon holding them on.

As a matter of fact, after getting our beads at Craft Essentials, I stopped in at Payless Shoe Source, cuz it’s bogo time, and shoppped for a bit. Standing in an aisle perusing the goodness of shoes, a little girl looks at me and says, ‘ I love your shorts. I was telling my mom to look at them. I love them. I wish I had some.’ Me, in between her statements, thanking her profusely, I was ecstatic! Then she continued, ‘I wish I had those shorts, I love the ribbon, it’s stripey and pretty.’
It was her 6th birthday today, she was one happy little girl! Shoe shopping & adoring my shorts, she couldn’t have asked for more!

Oh & I got some of the cutest shoes, ever. period.

MS3 swatch

I redid my swatch for the mystery stole 3 and used all 5 bead colors I have to choose from.

Zephyr wool silk in Steel from Sarah’s Yarns on size 5 needles

from the bottom to the top the beads are:
2 rows of beads: 8/0 japanese burgundy irridescent from a local craft store (craft essentials)
1 row because I immediately did not like them: 8/0 matte black from beadwrangler #906
2 rows of beads: 8/0 grey copper lined from beadwrangler #915
2 rows of beads: 8/0 crystal copper lined from beadwrangler#207
2 rows of beads: 8/0 brown metallic from beadwrangler #803, these are the ones I chose to do the stole with.

I like how in the brown metallic mix there are different colors of irridescent beads that pop out in random order.

My second choice would have been the burgundy I think. But the brown metallic mix gives it a more neutral feel.

Friday we get started, mwaaahhaaahhaa, I can’t wait!

Yeehaw!!!

I’m done…I’m done…woohoo!
Wet & drying, I bring you the Unmentionables…

I do promise a shot of me wearing them even if I am not so pleased with the lumps & bumps my body exhibits.
On the beach shot, no less! If they are dry by the time I get there today. I have discovered the miracle of the beach, people. For the last 4 years, taking all 3 kids to the beach alone was doable but very, very difficult. This year, easy-peasy baby! I can read, knit, layout, even close my eyes & noone dies! It’s amazing! Here is a taste of our beach day yesterday;

This is Bacara Resort at our beach, Haskell’s beach, that is about 1/2 mile from our house. It’s a great beach, only rocky on that west end towards the resort, it is perfect sand all to the east, down the beach. If that confuses you, go check out a map of the Santa Barbara coast line & you’ll see that our beaches face South. We get to see the sunrise over the ocean & set over the ocean, it’s pretty frickin’ awesome!

You can see a building up on the ledge behind Sadie to the left, that is our snack shack/ bathrooms/ outdoor showers. Pretty darn handy!

That is my beach bag o’ tricks, with the Loopy Ewe in there- he’s supposed to be seen places so I can win stuff from the Loopy Ewe, I carry sunscreen, knitting, snacks, drinks, etc.

Overall our beach is a damn good place to keep us out of trouble (and from having to do tons of cleanup after the kids at home). Less housework=happy mom!

Never in my lifetime

Never in my lifetime, in this day & age, did I think I would actually see the end of a freeway. I mean, it just stops.

Your eyes do not deceive you…

I can’t exactly tell you why, but Tracy, George & I all found this to be rather amazing. The freeway doesn’t work it’s way from 4 lanes to 2 and continue on like any normal freeway would do. Or even change to streets with lights. It just ends. The confusion that happened when all of a sudden big orange cones & cement blockades were guiding us up onto an offramp to sidestreets was rather funny.

Anyways….thought I would share our once in a lifetime experience.

Upon my arrival…

How great is it to come home to packages?? So Great!!!

I received 3 packages while gone camping & then 2 more today!

These are all Duet Sock Yarns; from left to right, Hot Flash, Chantilly Lace, Tiffany’s. All sport weight.
Hot Flash & Tiffany’s are from The Yarn Grove & Chantilly Lace is from The Loopy Ewe. Also from The Loopy Ewe was a hank of Minty yarn by The Knittery.

And the third package was a hank of Schaefer Anne yarn in color 191, from emtnestr on Ebay. Perfect service, as always!

And, I got my size 13/14 crochet hook for beading the Mystery Stole 3. And, I got my SIGG bottle that I ordered from here. I am in love with this bottle & all it’s other SIGG friends! They are beautiful, lightweight, don’t have condensation on the outside when filled with an icy beverage and are just plain great! If they didn’t cost so much I would purchase them for the kids too. I haven’t decided on that yet. It may well be worth the cost to have sturdy water bottles that last a long time & don’t need to be replaced every month or so. The kids don’t lose them, they crack & break them. These bottles, not a chance of breakage other than a replaceable lid. See how I talk myself into things?? And who told me I was a great salesperson recently…Rowan?? Yeah, I am an enabler of the worst kind!

To Sequoia & Back

Camping in the Sequoia Nat’l Park is something noone should miss in their lifetime. I grew up in & around the Sierra mountains of Northern California and had only been to the Giant Sequoia’s once in my life. We didn’t have much time to spend driving around to all of the different tourist-y sites in the park but we did thoroughly enjoy our campground and surrounding area. We saw a 2 year old bear on 2 days and heard the big male bear around our site at night but I sure as hell was not sticking my head out to see him or take a picture! Tracy also took many, many pictures. Soon she’ll have some up for a look-see. Here are a few of mine (no, not with a new beautiful camera, that one never came/order has been cancelled/story at a later date):

There were a lot of these

There was some of this

There was quite a bit of this happening in Tracy’s chair

There was not a lot of this happening in my chair

There were a few sightings of this guy

There was a lot of this

Much of this

And at the end of it all, Tracy & I ended up in matching outfits all other clothes being dirty, here is our fan-frickin-tastic family (minus sadie, she took the picture, Tracy has a full pic of the 6 of us).

Okay, it is really rather funny that we are that like minded we held onto our Haiku shirts until the last day of camping, plus green pants & we always wear our matching cowboy hats!

Funny story, well at least we thought so;
Picture it, breakfast cooked & cleaned up, campsite pretty much bear-proofed, George & the kids walk down to the creek, Tracy & I go in the tent to change for the days activities.
All of a sudden the campground get’s really noisy. Not yelling, not cars, not radios, just noisy. Before I know it, there is a woman hollering in a panicked voice into the tent, ‘do you know where your kids are? there’s a bear, a bear!’
Being naked, Tracy & I both stammer, ‘Our husband is with the kids’.
Notice the ‘our’ in that statement.
I quickly corrected myself, not wanting to be mistaken for a polygamist, ‘he’s with them, they’ll be fine’ and Tracy says, ‘Is it a big bear?’
The woman replies, ‘yeah, it’s a year or two old’, having never seen the bear herself.
It’s like a large stuffed animal. Cute, furry and just plain adorable.

End of funny story.

…snort…’our husband’…snort…well we did match exactly so he wouldn’t get confused and think there were 2 of us, did we??
