ooooooh Mama! It's here, it's here!

That box contained this:

Those are all the bits & pieces that make this:

Behold the loveliness (haha, gotta love the anti-flash look on the half-assed assembled wheel just so I can get a shot of it in my house before leaving for knitting tonight ;o)) of my Louet s10 in my living room.

Once it’s all screwed together & bolts tightened I promise to get a picture of it in it’s permanent spot in my living room.

Onto other things.  I will be teaching classes at Knit & Pearl. First a sock class starting early November (go sign up for it now), then a finishing techniques class in December and a beginners sweater class starting in January. I got the yarn from Julie today for the sweater class (and the pattern book we’ll be using). Gorgeous, gorgeous Manos Del Uruguay cotton yarn. Yummm….

And I got some yummy, yummy merino laceweight (950 yards each, yeehaw) in verde esperanza from HPY.

The reeling machine & ball winder will get a workout tomorrow morning! Fan-doodley-astic!

Just some stuff to keep me busy

This weekends knitting (which there really hasn’t been much of) has been just to keep my hands busy.

First I decided to do holiday hats for us. I chose the Shedir pattern from knitty because it’s a great charted cable pattern that is easily altered for each head size in my family.

And I am using Knitpicks new yarn, Telemark in the colors below:

George’s is the first to be worked on in the Grey Wolf color. I do love the pattern.

And next is a hat that I whipped out (crocheted) for Sadie using one of Red Hearts new variagated yarns. For $.79 worth of yarn and one hour it’s not a bad lookin hat!

It didn’t pool! I don’t care if it does the whole spiral/twisty thing as long as it does not pool!

Since you don’t really get a good ribbing in crochet I decided to do a horizontal edging. Simple but just a little something on that last inch. So I just single crocheted through the back loop for the last 4 rounds. Simple.

The patons sws sweater that I am designing has seen some work also. This is how it looked on Saturday morning:

And here it is as of last night:

Stitches are all picked up around the deep V for the collar. All that is left are to knit the sleeves after finishing the collar, then a tad bit of finishing work. Finalize the pattern, have someone test knit it for me & I am good to go!

Um…other than that I have sat on my butt. oh, the pumpkin patch last night with the kids, church this morning and shopping with tracy yesterday. Okay, then I sat on my butt!

In Memory of Denise Anderson

1949-2006

Denise was a Mother, Wife, Friend, Second-mom to me, The MOST addicted crafter I have ever met.

Tracy, you were blessed with the most amazing mother. You had a friendship and bond with her that not many daughters have. She loved you with that beautiful unconditional love that only mothers can have for their daughters. I promised her I would take care of you, step in as a mother when needed (which is not very often since she did such a good job as your mother & besides that, I could NEVER compare) and be your sister.

I loved Denise even when she gave me a hard time about my hair, my clothes, my tattoos. She gave me strength in being a mom. She will always be a role model to me as a mother to my kids. Through Tracy my kids will always have Denise as an influence in their lives.

Go with God Denise, watch over us and love us for all eternity.

Not UFO's but TwoFO's

That is right, two finished objects today! Not that they are so large in size but just the fact to do two projects today is fantastic!

For baby Peter are the following:

A raglan in the round sweater and the cutest darn hat from Lucinda Guy’s book And So To Bed…and other knit things. I had to adjust the hat pattern for a tiny baby head & worsted weight yarn instead of the dk weight they use. But it all worked out in the end. He probably won’t be able to use it right away but it’s better too big than too small! I have a sneaking suspicion that the sweater will end up being doll clothes for the girls to play with & not actually fit him. He was over 8 lbs and I was expecting smaller, oops! Just goes to show, you never can guess the size of the baby.

thanks for de-lurking

I just want to say thanks to those of you that commented on the comment post. I am so happy to know that there are some of you out there that I didn’t even know were here reading! Well now I know.

I hereby promise I will practice what I preach and comment much more frequently on posts. I don’t want you to think I am stalker though so it will not be on each & every post ever posted. ;o)

AND TOTALLY OFF TOPIC:

Congratulations to Betsy & Andrew who had their baby boy, Peter Coffin (way to go Betsy, you & the girls won on that fight) last night at 9:11pm. Healthy & kicking I am sure!

Expanding comments

I am going to expand on what Laura had to say on comments yesterday. You can read her post here.

From Laura’s blog I followed a link to a UKnitters blogring site. Of course I got completely sucked in! What I noticed is that the UKnitters are all commenting. I mean, COMMENTING. Some posts have just over a dozen comments, others have in the 20-30 range. Almost every blog on the ring! Well, as far as I went before deciding to post here.

I just wonder why we Americans are lurkers. Is it a dirty little secret that we blog? Is it a dirty little secret that we like to be nosy and read about other people’s lives that connect with ours through knitting? I thought the whole purpose of blogging was to have contact out here in big ol’ bad cyberspace. Well I for one have taken to commenting frequently on others’ blogs in hopes that it will be reciprocated.

Comments don’t have to be fancy & perfect. Just a ‘hi, nice half assed sock’ would be nice. I think one of the killers for comments is bloglines, newsgator, rss subscription feeds in general. We all read the digest of posts & move on with our day. We, as users of these wonderful internet inventions, miss the gritty detail of the posts. The background color, the sometimes garrish buttons & links on the side, the little details that make a blog a blog. Especially knitting blogs.

I say we rise up & become more like our UKnitters friends & make ourselves be heard!

Who’s with me??

nooone?

fine.

top 5 fave tv shows

Thuy’s post about Shelly from Northern Exposure has inspired me to share a little insight into my overly tv-addicted life.

1- X-Files

2- Deadwood

3- General Hospital (so housewife-y of me isn’t it?)

4- Northern Exposure

5- Arrested Development

There are some others that I do love but just don’t make it into the all time I-can-watch-them-over-and-over-again category so here they are.

6- Law & Order any & all of them

7- CSI any & all of them

8- Project Runway it’s a very seasonal, trendy watching experience for me

9- 24

10-  I just sat here for a couple of minutes and nothing popped into my head. There are plenty of shows I do & have watched but I guess they are fleeting to me.

I do love TV.

yessssssssss.

I won a spinning wheel on ebay. Not just any wheel, a Louet s10 straight from the Netherlands where they are manufactured. So happy! It will be 2-4 weeks before it gets here but until then I will be hoarding fiber and rearranging my living room so it has a perfect little spot to come home to.

Isn’t it loverly? I love the finish. Nice and clean. The color looks like it will fit nicely in my living room and for some reason that is important to me.

It’s actually my birthday gift (Dec 17) but I have been outbid so many times on these wheels I was not going to miss out just because I would get it early. Plus, if you know me, it was really just an excuse to get it as soon as possible! I am a cheater & I know it.

I told you I would….

Done! Are the Jaywalkers out of Fortissima Disco.

Let me say this about these socks. Ahem… I finished them last night around 9pm. Put them on, slept in them & took the picture this morning. I have never, ever had a pair of socks that actually fit my feet & stayed up. I even have trouble with store bought socks falling down around my bony feet. These fit so perfectly around my heel/ankle that I don’t ever want to take them off. As a matter of fact it makes me want to cast on for another pair this very instant. But I shan’t.

I am also only 8 rows away from being done with the back of the Green Lacey Hoodie from Rebecca. Just thought I would throw that in there. I am going to finish the back & cast on for the front pronto!
