Holy Smokes

That was the worst night’s sleep. Not ever. But man was it bad. Not only the dream issue but pain in new spots down my butt and hamstring. Ggrrrr…
I haven’t recovered much today. Did some stretching, cleaning, playing on the floor, curled up like a cat in the sunshine on a quilt and napped for a bit(like maybe 10 minutes). Unfortunately I haven’t knit more than a few rows on Sadie’s socks since getting here. I just can’t sit for very long. It is kinda driving me crazy.
Now I am sitting on the back deck smack dab in the middle of a Nerf gun war, silly boys!
Christi and Jon are poolside in Vegas, lounging and eating, enjoying the silence. I hope they have an amazing trip! I know how hard it is to get away from all the commitments and schedules of kids to take time to focus on yourselves a bit. They deserve it, they are fantastic parents and perfectly made for each other.
I like being here with my nieces and nephews and really getting them all to myself. We get the real life experience. It’s good for us.
Oh I should post pictures!

Knitting Olympics 2010

Tonights Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics kicks off 2 weeks of knitting olympics. The goal is to start a project, push yourself & finish your project by the Closing Ceremonies on the 28th.
I am going to be doing 2 shawls. One as a gift, one for myself.
The techniques won’t be pushing me but the amount of knitting involved will. Especially since I have been working on the same hat for over a week ;o) I just can’t seem to sit & knit lately. I will have to if I want to reach my goal in the next 2 weeks!
Plus, at the tail end of those 2 weeks is our annual trip to the Stitches West Convention in Santa Clara.
My sister Cori, coribug on ravelry, is coming out like she did last year so we’ll have a ton of fun. She arrives on Tuesday the 23rd & flies home on the following Tuesday.
Pics will be up as I go along. I am actually hoping to finish the first shawl, Andrea’s Shawl by Kirsten Kapur in 4 days. We’ll see if I can accomplish that & then have plenty of time for the second shawl,

Happy Knitting Olympics Everyone!!

Can I just tell you…

…how rad it is to get in touch with a friend that lives all the way across the world after 20+ years of not having communication??  It is rad.  I just want to say that I have found one of the last of my missing friends.  I have had great luck in finding childhood friends from before we moved to Turkey.  Almost everybody I would like to be friends with from high school & college are right there at my fingertips.  But Defne, she was one I wasn’t sure I would find again.  She found me!! I am pleased beyond words.
Defne and I were friends in Turkey as young teenagers. We went to school together, hung out at each others homes after school & generally were just girls together. Amazing that after all this time facebook brings us together. There we find out we have a lot in common. Hobbies especially.  (Well she is making one of her hobbies in to a career in these tough economic times, awesome!)
She is even on Ravelry!  Seriously, could it get any better?!?!  Well, yes it could.  If she lived right here in SoCal, close enough to actually see her, that would be the best.
I so wish my scanner was working so I could embarrass us both enormously and post a few of the rare pictures I have of us together.
Alas, this will have to do.
Here’s to us, Defne!!

Web Site for Knitting Nuts Has New York Needlers in Stitches | The New York Observer.
This was a great, fun article & I wanted to share it with you all since we LOVE ravelry so much.
I especially loved this line, “Anybody who is not on Ravelry,” a friend said recently, pausing to lean in—close—“is stupid.”
Plus, Casey & Jess + their crew could use a little positive love today. It’s been a rough couple of days for them with the running of the site ;o)

Stitches 2008 flashback

In preparation for Stitches this year I wanted to get you all excited about all there is to do & all the peeps/celebs to see.
Tracy & I had so much fun last year at our cute hotel amongst all the yarn that we decided this year we had to bring along friends. Boy are we bringing along friends! 10 of us are going so far with a couple more possible.
Reservations are made, plane tickets purchased (okay, only one person had to buy plane tickets to get here to SB to drive up with us),  I am ready to pack but that might be a tad too early even for me ;o)
You can see my post from last year and Tracy’s post as well to re-read about all the fun we had.

Enjoy!

This was Tracy & I last year at Stitches with Casey (the founder of Ravelry, just in case you live under a rock with no yarn)
I can only imagine how many photos we’ll get this year with all of us going!!! I am so excited!!
