Seriously, I am so grateful for people that are more clever than I am that come up with these brilliant, simple, and oh-so-helpful ideas.
Not everyone has the ability to sew themselves, and their loved ones, fabric face masks during this pandemic. We all know we can’t go to the store, or online, and buy masks so finding a way to make well-fitting fabric face coverings that you can insert a filter of some kind into should be high on everyone’s priority list right now. NOTE: these masks WILL NOT filter out the Covid-19 virus, the goal is to prevent us from touching our faces with our hands that may be contaminated, plus helpfully keep out a portion of the many germs and viruses we encounter.
In my opinion, face masks cannot harm us as long as we understand that just wearing a mask doesn’t protect us completely from the Covid-19 virus, but it does encourage social distancing when in public. And that is totally worth it!
Well hello!
I sure hope you all aren’t too sick of the website/social media/email bombardment from every contact you have. I know it’s an inconvenience and I certainly do appreciate you taking the time to click + read.
I received notice from the owner of Wichita Studio School, where my studio is located, that he is closing the building to the public. That means the iCT DeSTaSH SaLe is officially canceled, which is what I honestly expected to have to do anyway.
Today and tomorrow the building is being sanitized. Unfortunately, that does not include private studio spaces so I will be there Saturday when we are allowed back in, sanitizing our space and setting up for virtual lessons.
What this means for us:
For now, I have to cancel our in-person classes + private lessons.
I foresee having to move to virtual classes, which makes it hard for me to physically guide you, but it’s better than nothing!
I will be using Google Hangouts/Meet for virtual individual/group lessons.
Once we set up a time to meet virtually, I will help get you set up if you haven’t used it before.
I will be keeping in touch via email, Facebook, Instagram so keep an eye out.
Thank you all!!
Don’t give up, we’ll all get through this time as healthy, more community-minded knitters. We have plenty of knitting to keep us busy!!
SO…how’s everyone holding up??
Guess where I am…my usual workspace, my cozy home ‘office’.
I am sure more than a few of you are also now working from home or off work keeping the community safe practicing social distancing.
Luckily, we have many many projects to keep us creatives busy!
I want to keep in touch and update all my students, knitting + spinning friends, and clients about Firebrunette Knits’ plans for the next few weeks through the end of March.

I have had virtual lessons available for the last year and with a few out-of-state exceptions, this option has not been utilized locally yet.
I would like to remind everyone that you can meet with me virtually through a number of video conferencing options:
– Please use the Book Now option on the Firebrunette Knits Facebook Page to reserve a time, choose Virtual Lesson
– If you are not on Facebook, contact me directly, chauntel@firebrunetteknits.com to schedule
Google Hangouts – I will send you an invite 10 minutes prior to our scheduled meet time so you have time to sign in or download the app to your phone/iPad/tablet
This service works on any platform with video-enabled + I have found with a good internet connection it is good quality for video
Skype – I don’t typically use Skype, but if it is a platform you would prefer we can connect that way
Zoom – limited to 40 minutes
If you have a preferred way to virtually connect, please don’t hesitate to ask if it’s an option
I understand these are trying times, emotionally and for some of our small businesses, financially. There are a lot of movements out there for small businesses to stay alive during this time. Picket Fence Quilt Co, the brick + mortar fabric shop I work at as well as teach at, does not have an online store, but we are staying open. If you cannot come in, please call and purchase a gift certificate for future visits, or as a gift for another quilter/family member. Maybe get a jumpstart on your Holiday shopping or prepare for upcoming birthdays!

I cannot thank you all enough for taking precautions at this time, it is important that those of us that are not compromised do our part to take care of and watch out for those that are in danger from Covid-19.

Thank you to everyone that has taken a class, or three, this last month at the studio. It has proven to be a great success.
I love January, the newness of the year.
I have been finishing projects right + left, sweaters, shawls, cowls, mittens, all pulled from my WIP pile. I have this nagging guilt about ongoing projects, but in my line of work it is rare that I get to work a project start to finish without something else popping up.
In all honesty, I could probably work on just WIPs for the next year solid and not finish them all (we’re talking close to 60 knitting projects + a dozen crochet).
If you are like me, and absolutely a floozy when it comes to casting on, go grab a project that is over 50% completed and get it finished!! It will feel so good, I promise!
If you are already registered in the March 7th Brioche class and would like to change to the new date, please don’t hesitate to contact me and switch!
