ATTENTION SANTA BARBARA ( and surrounding area) KNITTERS!

Mel Clark, author of Knit 2 Together, will be at Knit & Pearl (5 E. Figueroa St.) in Santa Barbara on Sunday, December 10th from 1-3pm to sign books. Julie, owner of Knit & Pearl, is very excited to have a guest at the shop. There will be display projects from the book at the shop today through Sunday. It’s nice to have a hands on experience with patterns before you knit them & this is the perfect opportunity.

I have knit one item from the book and have plans for many more, it’s one of my new favorite books. I will have my copy with me to have it signed! I don’t normally do the whole starstruck thing (especially since we live in SB, little hollywood) but this sounds like too much fun to pass up. And helloooo….knitting is involved! What could be better??

Why can't we ever be satisfied?

The grass is always greener, isn’t it? I have no real love for any projects I am working on. I am only working on them out of guilt for not having finished them yet. Isn’t that a terrible thing to do with your hobby/obsession? I think so.

So, I will finish up some of the faster projects and just not worry about the guilt if I decide to start something new. The something new may just be vests for the kids. Crochetme has a new issue out and the Summit Hill pattern is the perfect thing for my kids. They all like active clothes. Pieces that layer well are exactly what we need here on the coast where it’s chilly in the morning but not cold enough for a coat.  And I can pretty much guarantee you that I have yarn on hand to make the vests too. I hope I do. A few years ago all I had in my stash was washable yarn. Now it’s mostly handwash wools of some blend or another. I will have to do some digging.

So, my new goals…. finish the clapotis scarf, finish the November socks of the month, finish the Filatura Di Crosa sweater (the back is done and the front half done) and copy a pattern from the Holiday JCrew catalog, that of course is not online so I can’t show you the picture. Oh, maybe it was JJill. Gimme a sec….

There it is! Cabled ribs. Simple & simply fantastic! If I can get it just right I will offer it as a free pattern on the sidebar. How many times have I promised that? Too many I think ;o)

This is seriously a quickie

I have been working on a clapotis scarf, not the shawl size, out of a hank of Village Spinning & Weaving’s magical handpainted sock yarn. Gorgeous, I tell you. And working on the November sock of the month club socks. Regia silk sock yarn is to die for! I love it & will tell Julie at Knit & Pearl to stock some so we can all share in the goodness that is silk for your feet.

Sweaters just seem so big & bulky right now. I am in a quick project mode, fine by me, it means I have more feelings of accomplishment. Although I suppose that socks on size 0 needles in a  rib & lace pattern aren’t that quick. I am only on the heel flap of the first sock. I should have done them both at once on magic loop or 2 circ’s. I did get some Claudia handpainted sock yarn from Knit & Pearl for a pair of toe up 2 at once on 2 circ’s socks. I am taking them with me on our christmas trip to Idaho. That and the sweater for the beginning sweater class in January that I am teaching (hintsignupatknitandpearlhint).

I promise my next post will be full of pictures of pretty finished objects and funny quips about something or other.

computer woes

I haven’t posted or been commenting much on your blogs because I have been fighting with many retarded programs on my computer.  So, I spent the last 2 days fixing things. They are not totally fixed but well enough that I can return to cyberspace.

Knitting tonight at the Java Station will be fun, as usual. I am taking my spinning wheel tonight, hopefully Molly’s husband will join us to spin on his new Lendrum too.

My sock class at Knit & Pearl finished this last Tuesday and the ladies did a wonderful job on their first sock. I must say it turned out to be a great class to teach and I am so glad that I did it. Too bad one sock got eaten by a dog, it really happened, the dog ate her homework. But she did a good job saving the sock even though she had to buy new dpn’s to finish.

I will be teaching a beginning sweater class starting in January, that one will be a hoot I am sure!

The Shedir hat is moving right along for George. His is the only one I will get done for our Christmas trip. I am using knitpicks Telemark yarn and I do believe I love that yarn. It’s smooth and a nice wool to work with. It doesn’t feel like it is going to pill like the Merino Style or Wool of the Andes.

I have a good friend who’s daughter is getting married in January and she needs a matching stocking to hang for her future son in law. I am going to help her out by embroidering his name on a stocking that she bought that matches the rest of the kids stockings. I will post some pics of the progress once I get it started. Which will be my entire morning tomorrow so they can actually have it to decorate with.

Okay, I am off to get my wheel in the car and ready to go!
