Okay, NOW I am pissed!

What the hell?!?

I cast on for the eyelet pullover as soon as I got the new vogueknitting fall 2005. Right, then I decided I would actually finish it. So I did! Before they posted corrections on their website. So now I see that there were corrections that would have saved me a lot of headache & figuring out what the hell they were talking about! Whatever!!

So now I have a very nicely blocked & washed eyelet pullover that is not perfect. Fine by me! I think it is one that I might actually wear here in the winter. Due to all the eyelet hole-y-ness I won’t die of heat exhaustion when we have our coldest daytime high of 55F. Enough of this sweater! You all will have pictures soon enough!

Oh and here is a small suggestion, don’t start a project out of a knit magazine until they have posted the corrections!

Okay on to other life issues. I am really sad about all the devastation from hurricane Katrina and the aftermath of the levee’s breaking. My first thoughts went to just trying to process the amount of devastation and the longevity of the problems. Then I thought of the death, then I thought of the kids, then I thought of the knitters. I hate to say it but I really thought of how knitters that have been displaced and lost everything will not have the stress release of knitting. Knitting something when you are anxious, stressed or out of money is such a great feeling of accomplishment for me. I can only guess that those knitters that have lost their homes, work and basically all they need to survive will be needing the support of the knitting community! This is our very own USA mini-version of the tsunamis. These people have NOTHING left! Not only that, they can’t even return to their homes,  let alone start rebuilding, for months!! It may even be years for some that didn’t have a lot to begin with. Thank God that the great people & state of Texas are pouring out their love & concern for their neighbors & taking any and all refugees from the Katrina ravaged states. Please, if you feel like I do and want to help in any way possible donate to the Red Cross! There may even be organizations in your community that are taking donations of items, not just money. Can you imagine a knitter walking through the donation line and seeing yarn & needles put together in a kit with a pattern, all ready to be picked up & knit?!? I don’t know how feasible this is but it would make my day after the hell they have gone through! If any one hears of anything else we as knitters can do please pass it on!

If you don’t got it, don’t flaunt it

I so do not have it with the finished black eyelet pullover. So much so that I don’t think I will even bother to post a picture of it until it can be tweeked into submission & acceptable for mass audiences to view! No, you don’t understand. It’s bad, hopefully temporary misbehavior is all it is but we’ll have to see about that! I am the ruler of this here knitting domain!

Tracy was kind enough to bring me my portion of the knitpicks order last night. And she was kind enough to hang with the kids so my man & I could get out for coffee & desert at Andersen’s in downtown Santa Barbara. With the lovely yarn from knitpicks I cast on for Brocade 

I couldn’t possibly wait until I was done with other projects to cast on for this! Although I did finish the eyelet pullover, I said I don’t want to talk about it! I love the wool of the andes yarns that I am using and the pattern is neat because it’s not one that can be memorized but it doesn’t really matter if you miss a stitch here or there because the pattern has a bit of fluidity to it. I find it gorgeous!

I do still have many other projects in the works & below you will see them listed.

and that pretty much sums it up. I am sure there are others lurking in cupboards & bags but they have lost my affection & don’t deserve my attention.

I hope that everyone is keeping those in the South US in their thoughts and prayers tonight & in the coming weeks and months. We are very lucky to live where we live, knock on wood!

Knit for troops

I found a great organization that is trying to get the word out about helping the troops overseas with knit or crocheted helmetliners. Also there is a link on the website for a sewn neck cooler for those soldiers in extremely hot environments.

I don’t know about you guys but I think that given these soldiers are over there protecting my freedoms the least I can do is put my knitting to good use and send them a hand knit item that they can use. Especially going into the winter months.

Please consider making these items, I will be happy to collect them & mail them out. Let me know if you are interested!!

I promise…

…not all of my apad pictures will be of my kids but I just came across that one of my boys from last April & I couldn’t help but share them with you all!

Is it just me or are any of you having ridiculously late nights like I am. Granted, mine is mostly stress induced but I am still having a hard time getting to sleep so what is the point when I could be watching great movies & knitting?? Trainspotting & the black eyelet pullover from vogue were the creme-de-la-creme last night until after 2am. I finished the front of the eyelet pullover then realized that I had reversed 2 sections of lacework 6″ back so I had to pull it back out to where you pick up the provisional cast on stitches. Anywho….I finished it & enjoyed myself whilst doing it!

Today has been a bit of a sewing morning. I had purchased some fab linen dresses from Costco a couple of years ago with great potential after alterations. Of course they have been in my closet unworn since then until today! They were very rectangular but had a great shape potential so I just added a ton of darts, 4 on the front & 2 on the back,  & took in the side seams to make them much more shapely. Unfortunately the shoulder width is too wide but unless i really want to spend hours on it I am going to have to live with it. And so far I am happy with how simple the alterations were and how much they made a difference. Pictures will be above this here article! I didn’t think to do a before picture, only the after. Darn, that would have been cool! Oh well.
