Oh yeah & I finished something!

I finished the candle flame shawl using the super bulky merino from handpaintedyarn.com. It’s not as long as I would have liked but it’s wide enough to wrap nicely around. It used 4 hanks of yarn.

Once it’s done blocking I will take it outside for a bit of a photo shoot so you can see the pattern better. It’s gorgeous dahling!

Too many…

UFO’s in the Andreasen household. I need needles to get the gauge right on the mystery stole but all the size 4’s I have are being used. Occupied as one might say. I have straights, what am I saying?? I own them but will not use them. I must finish either the second legwarmer that is occupying one set of 4’s or the brown cherry fair isle yoke s/s sweater body that is occupying the other 4’s. I was pretty proud of myself for even locating the size 4’s I needed! Now the decision, which project do I finish. I have a very distinct feeling I will work on both even though I won’t wear the sweater until the fall. It’s stockinette for 10″ and then voila! Finito!

Count on the fan & feather shawl is up to 1032 stitches a round, row 148 of 189. I timed a round last night & it took me 29 minutes from 10:44pm-11:13pm. Granted it was late night knitting & I had a hard time keeping my eyes open but considering I rarely sit all the way through an entire row it’s probably accurate. This shawl is the project that sits next to my chair at all times ready to be picked up & worked on whenever I get the chance. I am so happy that I am still motivated to work on this shawl!

I am excited to get a good, solid start on the mystery stole. I have the yarn I am going to use, handpaintedyarn’s pure wool lace in black. It’s not nearly as soft or as giving as the merino lace weight. But it’s still fabulous yarn! I will have to wait to get it started until my needles, as mentioned above, are free. Instead of a provisional cast on I am going to cast on to a spare pair of circs so that when I go back to that cast on I can just start knitting the other half. I got that off of the message board on the mystery stole 2 kal yahoo group. I have browsed others progress and it’s going to be a gorgeous lace project!

So for today & possibly tomorrow I will be finishing the legwarmer & the sweater so I can use the needles on my stole. Sounds like movie days to me. BUt I have cleaning to do. Lame! And I reseeded the grass in the backyard this morning to help out some bare spots so I need to be assessing the watering of the grass. I always forget to do that! Saturday I left the front sprinkler on for about 4 hours. Woops! The h2o company won’t be too pleased with me. I will not be too pleased either when I get the bill! sigh. summer in the southland with grass.

Candle flame, where have you been my whole life??

I found the candle flame shawl pattern & I am now officially addicted to this stitch pattern! It’s the perfect fast pattern for a triangle shawl like in the pattern but also a nice shapely scarf pattern.

Here is the shawl in handpaintedyarn super bulky merino 9 ply that I had on hand.

Here is the candle flame stitch pattern in a scarf using Malabrigo pot surprise merino, crack, yarn that I frogged from another scarf that I never, ever wore.

The scarf will be a christmas gift. I am starting early this year. My sisters-in-law are getting nicer gifts this year so I wanted to get a head start. Luckily I have the yarn on hand that I need, other than the glazed carrots of course. If I could find it in the worsted merino instead of the bulky wool that would rock!

The fan & feather shawl is moving along, I am on row 138 of 189. I do believe I just topped 1000 stitches a round. I didn’t count after the last increase row that I almost completed at knitnight the other night. And on that topic, Concert in the Park was nice! It ended up being Erin, Tracy, Kristin, Suzanne for a bit, Rachel stopped by & myself. It was fun, a little crowded & loud but we were way on the outskirts so it worked out nicely. By 8 it was pretty darn cool & we weren’t really prepared for it so we called it a night. I would totally be willing to do it again, don’t know if anyone else would but I found it a nice change of scenery.

I have moved past the crazy sock phase I was in. I still have socks on the needles that I will finish after the candle flame phase I am sure.

Knitting with a Concert in the Park Tonight

The plans for our knit group this evening are to meet at Chase Palm Park for a Concert in the Park. I will try to be there around 5:30 or 6 (depending on when George gets home from work) to save us a spot. If anyone else gets there sooner just find a spot on the fringe so it’s relatively easy to find eachother.

New Knitty

The new Knitty issue is up. It’s right up my knitting alley. Socks, small stuff, stuff that takes little to no brain power to make. Here are a few of my favorites, in order of appearance in the issue not in my desire to make them.

I like these gloves because here in the beautiful land of SoCal we rarely need real gloves. Row 126 of 189

Whew! It’s up to 840 stitches a round now! It’s still easy to pick up & work on though. I haven’t started to hate or even dislike it yet. Amazing, I really thought that by this point I would be so annoyed with how long the progress takes that I would give up. Nope! I just keep pluggin’ right along on it. I haven’t worked on it for about 24 hours but I think I may take it into the backyard here this afternoon for a bit of peaceful knitting.

Tyler had a rough night (therefore I had a rough night) last night. He was awake from midnight to 4am. I mean wide awake watching movies from his bed. He was a bit delirious by the time I got him to actually take the pain medicine. See, my 2 older kids really, really hate medicine. Of any kind. I bribe them, I scold them, I try reverse psychology & it rarely works. So when it took 4 hours to convince himself that he really needed it to feel better and sleep I was not surprised. What I was surprised at was the fact that he did actually give in & let me give him the medicine. I thought he would just tough out the night. But alas, the pain got to be too much & delirium set in. That is when I struck with the meds. His eyes were all glassy & he couldn’t remember words correctly, poor guy. It must have hurt so much! I thought I was stubborn, I don’t compare to my kids!

Bad bad Sunday

The morning started out with a sick girl & ended with a boy trip to the ER.

First, Sadie woke up with all over body aches and generally not feeling good. How we really knew she didn’t feel well was that she wasn’t talking. An 8 year old girl that doesn’t ever stop talking, stops talking & there is need to worry. So we stayed home from church to rest up.

Later in the day Tyler was outside in the backyard swinging from a tree branch, one of the giant bird of paradise limbs that he has swung from hundreds if not thousands of times, slipped off & landed on his wrist. After half an hour of serious crying we decided  a trip to the ER was in order. It was George’s turn to go this time, I took Trevor last time. We take turns like that.

After 2 hours & 3 x-rays later they came home cast & all. Not the traditional plaster cast, it’s some new-fangled cast that is wrapped in a bandage. Semi-hard cast or something like that.

He was just a tad loopy from the pain meds they gave him.

You can see the break in the ulna (bone on the left) about an inch down from the wrist. It looks like someone just bent it, it’s not a full on break. It will heal in the next 3-6 weeks depending on how good he is with it. Swinging from trees is not recommended. Sucks for him, that is how he spends most of his day, swinging from that tree. I suppose his number was up. Now to find other things he can do outside, that will be a tough one for him. Creativity is the key I suppose. So that was Sunday.

I did decide that I needed a bit of a break from the shawl & socks so using some yarn I got from Thuy on Thursday night I started a beach bag. Crocheted using a K hook. Big hook, my hands will be sore from this one! I am just hoping I have enough yarn to do what I want to do. I crocheted the handle first & now I am just going to crochet a large rectangle that will be folded in half & sewn along the bottom & one side to make the bag. Simple enough! The crochet rows will go vertically instead of the traditional horizontally. I don’t think that is the best description but I will post more pictures to make it more clear.
