Rainy Sunday

I have to say that I am actually not too tired of the rain yet. I think my attitude is; take it while you can get it. Referring to actually feeling like we have a winter this year. Most years January is the most beautiful month of the year: no marine layer or fog, no rain, gorgeous 70degree days every day. That is why George & I chose Jan 20th to get married outdoors in Montecito, it’s just perfect! Not this year, oh no!

Melissa’s comment reminded me that I need to get started on the baby blanket since the baby could be born any day now. She also hinted, not so slightly, that cotton is a bitch to work with. Unfortunately I have the perfect color yarn but it is mercerized cotton. SO I am debating. Gorgeous yarn & pain to knit or not so gorgeous yarn & easy to knit. So my solution is to do a swatch of this blanket

in the sage green cotton. Then I will decide if it’s worth it, of course the baby is worth it I just want to actually finish it without ripping my hair out!

Stay dry, keep knittin’!

Aren’t we all just really yarn collectors??

I had an epiphany today….can’t we just call ourselves yarn collectors?? I love the yarn for yarn’s sake not just to knit with it. Yarn does make pretty items but can’t we just admire it on it’s own? I find myself feeling guilty about my stash & then I realize that I should just enjoy the yarn. The colors, the texture, the beauty that is yarn!

I think I may just have a poll about that….

A positive outlook can change things!

I am a firm believer in being well educated on a topic. I like to hear both sides of a story. I have been in more arguments with my husband than I can count where he gets angry with me for being “devils advocate”. I feel I am fair with other people & their opinions.

That is why I can’t take it anymore! I do feel that in order to change things there must be positive reinforcement. Not so much negativity! I am proud to say that I voted for our president because I feel that all in all there is truth to be found in this White House. Do you want all goverment secrets to be voted on by the innumerable idiots in our society? Uneducated, blind mice that follow whomever? I don’t! I want people in those positions that can make informed (albeit sometimes skewed information gets through, people do have their own agendas) educated decisions that will last through all the crises that our baby of a country must tolerate! Have we forgotten that we are only 228 years old, fighting a world that is eons older than us?

Whew! That has been boiling under my skin for a couple of months & I finally had it today after scrolling through the blog ring. I am hearing a lot of hate & scorn but why can’t we just decide to work with what the majority of people want and make a good thing happen? Had Sen. Kerry been elected I would have said, “Okay, that is what the people in our country want. Let’s make it happen! There can be good in everyone, let’s see what he’s got!”

SO there you have it! Please don’t judge me on my opinions, I don’t judge others. I just don’t like mean people that focus on the negative. That’s all!

Friday….interesting Friday….

Well today  something so scary happened to me & mine. My youngest son, Trevor, got lost at Leadbetter beach. I mean really, really lost!! I can’t actually tell the story right now without having serious heart problems, a little too fresh. Let’s just say that the Santa Barbar Harbor Patrol had him at the snack shack about 200 yards away from where we were set up. All I have to say is thank God that Tracy was with me & thank God that a lady jogger saw him crying & took him to the authorities!!! He was chasing seagulls off of the beach & he ran so fast & far that he ended up down the beach while we were dealing with seagulls eating all of the kids dinner off of the bbq. STUPID SEAGULLS!!If I wasn’t so refined I would be cussing up a storm at those f*##%$ing seagulls right now!! (I know, I don’t normally swear but wow…I have never been so scared in my life……pardon the language!)

So in a nutshell that is all & I don’t think I will be able to let him out of my sight for any length of time, no matter how many hot dogs are being stolen by damn birds!

blah…blah…blah

I just felt the need to be heard for a moment. Not much on the knitting front today. Got about 8 rows done on a circular poncho I am doing. It’s up to about 216 sts now. Increasing 4 sts every other row. I will post a pic after it gets mailed to its future owner. Don’t want to spoil the surprise!

So other than that I only have 2 baby hats done for the shower tomorrow night. Just not motivated to do much else. So they will get the hats & hope they are happy with them. I may get them a little smell-good stuff to pamper themselves after the babies come screaming out of them & they are thinking ” what have I done??” ~ Can you tell that today was a hard day with my screaming hooligans~

I ordered some scrumptious yarn to soothe the raw nerves…koigu, noro, cashmere, summer grab bag, winter grab bag. I hope it arrives in a timely manner because I am just tired of waiting over a month for yarn!! Not happy, 3 orders still have not come that I am waiting for. Another 2 orders are coming from Canada & I won’t see them for at least 2-4 more weeks! AAAHHH!!! Too bad my LYS just doesn’t have what & want or am willing to pay.  In one of the knits for home books, can’t remember the name of it just now, there is a ruched blanket….oh lordy….I must make it & I have some silk yarn coming just for it. That is the canada orders….I don’t know how I will be patient for that one. I think I will force myself to finish a few of my outstanding projects before I dive into the blanket.

List of current projects:

~George’s sweater- 1.5 sleeves left, then sewing

~Sadie’s handpainted yarn sweater-1.5 sleeves left then sewing

~Sadie’s labrador sweater-only needs sewing

~Argyle pinks sweater-1/3 of back done is all

~Stripey sweater- broke a bamboo #2 needle so things came to grinding halt until I replaced it. Back is complete, 1/4 of an arm is done.

~Ribbed neck poncho- 14″ done, needs to go down to at least 23″ or more.

~Few hats here & there. Nothing important or rushed.

I am sure I could dig & find about a dozen more projects that I have put aside…oh that reminded me.

~Colinette ab fab throw- 1/3 done

~Vogue cross neck tank- finished back, frogged back, now just cast on ribbing for back. This may be a springtime project.

Um….thats all for now. I do actually complete projects…just not the ones that I put down for months at a time. My goal is to finish the poncho, the stripey sweater & George’s sweater before I start on the ruched blanket. High hopes but I think I can muster the strength.

Whew! Wish me luck, not that that has anything to do with anything…ciao!
