Stash reduction, yeah right!

Well I just found a new fun site, the daily knitter, thanks to Tracy! The only thing so far that I had to smirk at a bit was the following statement:

“And finally, swear to put yourself on a yarn diet. No more new yarn purchases until everything you already have is used up. “

Everything….I just don’t think that is possible! I think it is reasonable to say go a month or two with no new purchases but hey if I am finishing a dozen projects and I feel I deserve something new & pretty you better believe it’s gonna be new yarn! Although I could just make my yarn stash into some kind of store where it’s all organized prettily and ready to use instead of on cones or all shoved in plastic ziplocs  inside their canvas cubes. But that just means more organizing & cleaning & I am done with that!

On to knitting. I took time this morning, on the first day of the kids summer break, and organized all my loose patterns. I have two 3″ binders with just knit adult sweaters/tops, six 2″ binders organized as follows; kids, hats/scarves/ponchos/shawls, crochet & knit afghans, gloves & socks, my patterns and finally a binder with instructional materials ie knitting guild info, stitch patterns, specialty techniques, blahblahblah.

After all that I decided to use a sweet folder I got from Thuy as my upcoming project folder. So I put the pattern & swatch in the plastic sleeve together so now when I want to start that next project all the info is there at my fingertips. Grab the pattern, yarn & go! I love it! Unfortunately with how many projects I like to have going I am afraid my folder will fill up fast. It’s like my eyes being bigger than my stomach but with knitting. So what would that be….got it, kinda lame though…my folder being bigger than my entire needle collection. I will run out of needles to have everything on well before I run out of yarn or patterns!

Today was a stockinette day. Just working on Sadie’s bedspread. Got another 4″ or so done in an hour. I didn’t knit much, I found myself either folding laundry, cleaning the kitchen, telling the kids to clean up the play-doh or the pirate ship that moved from room to room or out here mindlessly looking at crap online. See? I knew I was more productive when the computer was at the office & my pc was broken! Damn technology! Too bad I don’t make any money off of this stupid thing! It just sucks money out of me, how is that right?? Oh well, such is the American way!

Happy Solstice tomorrow everyone & Happy birthday to my mom!!

I love yarn in the mail!!

Yesterday was interesting for me! We moved out of our shop/office space to try and save the business a little money each month. That was a pain in the butt for sure, but we had a lot of help from friends and my brotherinlaw & sisterinlaw ( I hate hyphens, won’t use them in this instance cuz I don’t wanna)! Then I received the yarn order from Handpaintedyarn that wasn’t expected! I posted pictures of the colors! Fantastic!

The carqueja has already been cast on for a top down raglan cardigan. So fun!

Then last night Tracy, Suzanne & I went to see Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Beautiful people in any movie makes it a good movie. The storyline was a bit slow at times but hey, I will take those 2 slow anyday!

Oh another thing!!! All you SB knitters out there…the Java Station is open until 10pm again for summer hours!! What say we move Thursday nights there & keep Monday nights at The Good Cup. Or we could move both nights to Java Station. I may just do a poll for it! Let me know what you think.

Cruisin’ my peeps blogs

I am so happy to see that we all do actually still read eachothers blogs!

I just had to post about my cruisin’ blogs. I ran across Erin’s sampler afghan pictures & they need to be shared. I have to say that Barbara Walker’s patterns are fantabulous!

I am thinking of doing a very funky fair aisle sweater. I love the detail on the sleeves and the neckline with this sweater! There is a debbie bliss pattern that I am IN LOVE with but I have some really crazy colors that I might just change the pattern to. So instead of lovely light blues & typical fair isle colors I am thinking I will do the body in a carrot orangeSee larger image & Learn More with some fun spruce See larger image & Learn More,

grass greenSee larger image & Learn More,

daffodil See larger image & Learn More,

tomato See larger image & Learn More

& chestnut See larger image & Learn More fair isle. These are all from knitpicks collection, wool of the andes. Little scary but we’ll just have to see how scary, good or bad scary.

Okay it’s dinner time!

Ciao!

What a downer!

Here is what I think…we are all too lazy, or too busy, or we just don’t care enough, to comment on eachothers blogs.

I hereby notify everyone that I will be commenting much more frequently so that we can all be encouraged we aren’t all alone out here in knit-blog world!

Whadya say my peeps??

Don’t comments make everyone feel good, worthwhile and just plain giddy?? I think so! So as my mother always taught me, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Here’s to comments!! Woohoo!

Who loves Art from Scrap?? I do, I do!!!

I don’t know how many of you Santa Barbara locals know about Art from Scrap but you should all go there! So much fun stuff!! Random things to make your imagination go wild!! Tracy & I took a little field trip there today on our lunch date to find some creative things. Who can say a 4lb cone of 100% silk yarn for $4!! That is right chickies…only 4 bucks!! So happy, oh so happy! And we got some fun other artsy, creative things that will remain a secret until we actually make them into art. Then you will see the magnificence!

More finished projects

So here is an update on finished & started projects:

I finished the blue cabled shrug from interweave knits. I love it!! It is a piece that will get a lot of use here by the ocean! Of course I couldn’t leave the pattern the way it was written, I decided to make ties instead of having the front cross over & pin shut. I like the ties better than having to mess with pins or broaches.

I started a fun hooded vest out of handpaintedyarn superbulky merino wool in pagoda that I got in trade from Tracy. In the round with deep 2×2 ribbing on the bottom and the hood is 2×2 rib also. Now I just have to sew a zipper in, no problem! Knit on size 11’s this went really fast & is a very functional piece of clothing!

Someday I will have a whole section of free patterns but as of now I just don’t have the attention span to work on it.

I have cast on a blanket for my daughter. Using some really soft cotton boucle yarns in red, pink, purple, blue and green. I am planning a simple striped pattern that will end up twin size for her bed. Rose our beautiful pain in the ass lop bunny has chewed up her afghan I made her as a toddler into quite a few pieces. At first i thought it might be salvageable but looking at it yesterday I decided it’s not. Shame too, it was gigantic! I will have to take a couple of pictures to demonstrate the destructiveness of bunnies on yarn items!

I will go cross some items off my list of projects now!

Ciao!
