scissor woes
When you have children there are things you learn to incorporate into your life. The latest issue in our house is scissors, or to be more exact, anything that could be used as a cutting implement. Tyler, our autistic son that’s almost 7, is encouraged to use scissors at school to help with his lack of fine motorskills. At home he is not encouraged & let me show you why….
Exhibit A
Notice how we spliced the cords back together, they are the ps2 cords after all!
Exhibit B
Exhibit C
electric fan cord
The scary thing about this one is that the fan was plugged in and turned on. He can’t handle the feeling of the fan air blowing on him, instead of pushing the button and turning the fan off, he permanently wanted it turned off.
Exhibit D
And the most traumatic example
one front of the aran cardigan, cut about an inch above the ribbing, no way to repair this one I am afraid!
And finally
Exhibit E from this morning
headphone cord
I guess the most frustrating thing about all this is that we made him bring us all the scissors yesterday after the aran cardigan was cut yet he still managed to cut this cord with a butter knife. <sigh> what in the world am I supposed to do about that?
And it’s not only the above items that he has cut. My pillow case has a perfect 3″ v shaped cut from scissors, Sadie’s favorite sheets were cut with craft scissors, a number of his t-shirts get cut at school, he cut all tails off of his dinosaurs and crocodiles to use as claws,
he cut all teeth/fangs/claws off of same said animals as well as elephant toys for real fangs to put in his mouth like k-9’s. I don’t mean he just cut one pair off that would work, he cut all of them off of all of his toys. Any and everything has been cut. It’s a textural issue with autistic kids. Unfortunately I guess it just comes with the territory. Don’t misunderstand & think he isn’t held accountable, he knows the consequences he just doesn’t think of them when he is cutting!
On to actual knitting updates!
I decided to make the fronts of the aran cardigan larger anyways (after I saw I had to remake one of the completed sides) so I just frogged them and am starting over. No biggy, just a good excuse to make alterations.
I have a baby shower to go to this week & the baby gifts are completed, I will post pics after the gifts are received. I am doing a fun item that I have not tried before for the mom. Pics to come after party!
I am excited that the new knitty is so much more advanced! It’s great to give newer knitter free, gorgeous patterns that make them think “okay, maybe I can do this”! Bravo Knitty, Bravo!!
I hope you all enjoyed a little sneak peek at the inner workings of the Andreasen household. Please don’t be scared away ![]()
Hope your weekend was happy!
