APAD #154
Guideposts, knits for kids
I found a new charity through my Secret Pal (that I am sending to this round, not receiving from).
I wanted to share it with you all in case you felt the need for a much needed charity project.

Inspired by thuy’s apad today, I thought I would go walk my sidewalk to see what I could find.
Behold, the art of melted crayons
Starsky preview
Here are the back and left front piece of the Starsky sweater before blocking. It’s amazing that they will (and believe me, they will) block out to be almost double their size & then some!
Here is a close up of the banana leaf cable pattern. I just took these, bad flash at night. Forgive the shadows.
It is all so jumbled and messy before blocking. I am not using the yarn suggested in the pattern, Sierra from Knitpicks. I am using some Lamb’s Pride worsted weight yarn that was factory seconds due to being overspun. The nice thing about it being overspun is that no matter how much you wash it, the swatch just got softer & softer without felting, without changing size or shape. So this will be 100% wool & mohair, washable!! Yippee!! I am just about done with the first sleeve. That leaves the second sleeve, the right front, assembly, the collar and belt! Not too bad! I have rather enjoyed this cable pattern even though it’s not one that could be easily memorized. I am following it line by line and have found it to be simple enough. Partially due to the fact that you don’t have that many stitches to deal with since it’s in a larger gauge.
I also joined the Starskyalong yahoo group started by the author of the pattern, Jordana Paige. If you are interested in knitting this sweater I highly recommend signing up for the group. There are plenty of messages with answers to questions & I even caught a mistake in the pattern today! I was the first to catch it (and say something about it)! I am pretty sure that is a first for me. I usually just gripe to myself, fix the problem & get on with things but seeing how this is such a new pattern I thought I would post on the group message board & see if anyone else had the same problem. Nope, just me so far & Jordana went through her notes on the original pattern and she found the printed mistake on knitty. The editor will go over it & add the correction I am sure. I was just shocked to be the first one to come across the mistake! All in all, it’s a fun pattern & a pretty quick knit.

I don’t know what kind of tree this is but isn’t that a rather large pod? It measures about 8 inches long. If anyone knows what kind of tree, let me know!
9am Sunday on Brandon Drive, Goleta.
It’s possible my head could explode!
I don’t know how many of you are afflicted with chronic allergies but let me just tell you, IT SUCKS!! For the past couple of days I have had all the symptoms of an impending sinus infection. I have much experience with this so I do my usual routine. Take the sinus meds I know will start to clear it. Drink a ton of water (which is not my usual routine) to get myself fully hydrated. And wait for the run to happen. It happened yesterday thank goodness but does it mean something that I slept really, really hard until 10:30am with no meds on board? I slept through the kids, their movie blaring, their sibling rivalries, all of it. Now my head feels like it weighs at least a billion ounces, I have a cough, my chest is heavy & I am so dry I might blow away. At this point staring at the computer screen and deleting every other letter due to mistake is all I can take. The coffee is brewing, the knitting is sitting.
Thanks to all who took the yarn, books and yarn bras I brought to get rid of. I knew if there were any other people that brought yarn I wouldn’t be able to stay away from it. Maura had the yarn I had to have. Yummy, soft, cream boucle-type attached to dark brown yarn in the middle. Hard to describe and since it was all balled I have no clue what it really is. It is so soft I debated on what it would become. Blanket? No, not enough. Sweater? No, a little too furry for my liking. I got it! Pillow cover & a heat pad cover. I have a squish type bolster pillow on my chair that I use for back support that is bright pink/red/purple stripes. It stands out like a soar thumb when I am not in my chair. And a portable heat pad cover to replace the dinky little flannel one that it came with. I am only about 3inches away from being done with the bolster cover. I am using a really old Interweave knits hot-water bottle cover sweater pattern for the heat pad cover. It is all cabled and has a turtleneck where you insert the pad/bottle. So cute! An aran sweater that is only 14″ long, has no sleeves & is a whoppin’ 80 stitches around? Hell yes I am making it!
I just talked to Tracy & she is in Long Beach, 5 minutes away from an Ikea & having the willpower not to go inside! I almost gave her a list of things I need but then we decided to just take a Saturday & go down ourselves. It’s only 2 hours away! And she does have a list of 3 yarn shops that she might stop by tomorrow on her way out. If not, no biggy. Bridesmaid dress shopping and wedding planning for a friend for an entire weekend is more than enough to keep oneself busy. Now what will you do this weekend?
Happy Saturday!
Neighborhood panorama
My neighborhood is not nearly as pretty as Tracy’s last panorama, but the clouds were nice today!
