I am trying….

I really am! I don’t want to accumulate more yarn but I just can’t seem to help myself! Thuy decided that she would share her massive recycled silk yarn purchase with the knit group & I walked away with 8 gorgeous balls of yarn. I love them, they are basking in their own glorious colors right next to my chair so I can fondle them often.

She also has a mass of noro kureyon that she is willing to thin out. That is the kicker for me. Offer to sell me yarn you have on hand & I will jump at the opportunity! Especially pretty, pretty colors like kureyon 131! Yeehaw! So I am rushing through the ballerina wrap cardigan to be ready for the acquiring of the kureyon. I have the back and both fronts as well as one of the two ties done. So it’s just the sleeves, one tie and assembly. No prob! I am totally motivated! I will have a new wrap by the end of the weekend!

That silk is so pretty I just can’t decide what to make with it. George, in all his infinite knitting wisdom, suggested that it would make a great pair of slippers! Hmmmm….he may just be on to something there! He can be quite the fountain of ideas that one. Who knew he just sat there soaking in all of our knitting chatter?? I do believe that will be the next test on the silk, slippers! I have 6 that match, relatively speaking, and 2 that are all out on their own in bright pink and multi brights. I do believe I may have a mismatchy pair of slippers in a few days! With the other 6 hanks I am just not sure! It’s heavy so apparel isn’t in the picture, plus it’s only about 400+- yards. I am seriously considering a bag of some kind for the summer but the shape has me stumped. Maybe a hobo bag of some kind, then line it. Won’t that be heavy out of the silk though? I just can’t decide!  sigh  We’ll just have to wait & see I think!

Oh, I think I have decided that the Starsky is going beltless. I don’t like belted cardigans so I thought maybe a brooch.

It stayed nicely but I have bad luck with brooches breaking. What I came up with (but have no picture for) is a skirt pin. Basically a kilt pin, large coil-less safety pin. I can use whichever feels right for the occasion/day! That makes me happy! This sweater just gets better & better!

On the needles

I thought I would actually post about knitting progress! Novel idea, isn’t it?

I did finish the Starsky yesterday! It’s had a bath and now just doing the last bit of drying. I am really hoping to wear it to knitting tonight.

I love the pattern & the yahoo group Starskyknitalong is fantastic! It’s monitored by the author of the pattern Jordana Paige.  They recommended using Knitpicks Sierra, a bulky weight wool blend, but I used some Lamb’s Pride worsted that I had on hand. I love everything about it! I do think this is a pattern that I would happily knit again! It took me approx. 36 hours to make, not bad for a sweater that size. It helped being a bulky weight yarn. I haven’t done belt loops yet because I ran out of yarn. Tracy has some more for me to finish with.

I know the pics aren’t the best but with the lighting I had to deal with last night it was the best I could do!

I am about done with the back of the Ballet wrap cardigan from the Winter 2005 Interweave knits. I am using some pure merino bulky wool six ply from hpy in a color they no longer have. It’s a greenish teal. Gorgeous!

I found a pattern today that I think will be pretty easy to mimic. I love felted hats, they are so versatile! You can wear them in the rain, sun, beach (in the winter), anywhere really. So this is the hat I want to make next using up some of my wool scraps.Ripley Winter Wool Hat

I got my sisters blanket to her the other day & she loved it, thank goodness! I, of course, forgot to take a picture of it beforehand so I will have her take a picture of it in her living room when they get home.

Now my goal is to find a profession sewing dress model (mannequin) for under $100. Good luck to me!! Ebay is my best bet I am thinkin’!

APAD #157 taken Tues. 3/13

My mom, Sadie on the left and the back of my niece Kennedi’s head on the teacups. Taken Tuesday 3/13 by Tracy (thanks for manning the camera) at Disneyland, of course! I love how they are still but everyhting around is out of control. It makes me happy! I could photoshop it to get their red eyes out but I don’t have the time.

Unexpected

I had an unexpected package on my doorstep today! From my Secret Pal! Yay!! A whole slew of knitpicks palette yarn! I am so happy it makes me want to cast on for about a dozen different things. But I will have patience if just for a week! My plan with all these lovelies?

I will be making some fair isle socks from the book Sensational Socks. And some mittens using Hello Yarns mitten charts. I am sure that a hat will come out of me at some point but I am just so excited! My only issue is this….the colors never match what I see on my monitor. I do believe, going on what other people have told me, that I am not the only one with this issue. The orange is WOWZA bright! Online it’s a nice muted pumpkin orange.

See larger image & Learn MoreThat is not the color I am holding up to the screen. Why can’t Knitpicks get a wider shot of the yarn? I truly think that would get a better picture, with better lighting too. Just a suggestion that I am sure won’t be heard. I have already been told by them that it’s my monitor. Okay then!

So, THANKS SECRET PAL!!!

What are the chances of actually getting the correct answer on a quiz??

You Are 31 Years Old
Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view – and you look at the world with awe.

13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what’s to come… love, work, and new experiences.

30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You’ve had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

40+: You are a mature adult. You’ve been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

Wants but defenitely not needs

I keep seeing certain patterns/books that strike my fancy. Of course I know we aren’t supposed to share but if anyone has them & would let me ‘look’ at them that would be super-fantastic! I hate buying patterns/books and being dissapointed.

I love AV patterns. They are so simplistic in their style yet the details are amazing!

Knitting was great last night! Erin was there, YAY!! She looks beautiful & glowing with baby on board. It gives me the slightest pang of wanting another pregnancy/baby experience but then I snap back to my senses with the reality that there are more than enough babes on this planet already & I have a contribution number of 3. That’s plenty. I meant to take photos but I was so tired & in a haze that I didn’t even think to get the camera out of my bag. I didn’t get a lick of knitting done either. Just a lot of talking!

Suzanne is making the most fantastic capelet/poncho/shrug out of scrap yarns. She is a green-fiend so it’s mostly tonal greens with a splash of orange and brown. LOVE IT!

Tracy is working on her first pair of 2 needle socks. I think once she gets past the gauge swatch and a bit into the sock she will not hate it quite so much. I do believe there are some people that should devote their precious knitting time to things other than socks. She may be one of them. I am pretty sure that stress knitting is not good for your sanity. Socks have a tendency to do that to some people.

Thuy is interested in a sewing group of some sort. If we can come up with a good plan I think it might be the thing to get some of us motivated to start sewing again. I mean real sewing, not just the necessities like needle cases & purses.

Kristen had her friends pattern for the cutest knit (without felting) maryjane slippers. Made with Noro Kureyon they are so cute! I am not going to pay for the pattern but they are damned cute!

I am on a bit of a deadline for my sisters blanket, I have to have it done today. I have put myself on short notice. The rounds are now taking me close to 10 minutes each & I have at least 4 hours worth of work to finish it. So, that is what I will work on throughout today & tonight in between cleaning, kids, laundry, etc.

I don’t know how realistic finishing Starsky before Disneyland on Monday is but I am sure as hell going to try! I have one sleeve, one front and all the finishing to do. That is a tall order I do beleive, even for me! Good thing it is going to rain all weekend so I have an excuse to sit and knit!

Thuy, this is for you. I found a few patterns that may just have motivated me into sewing.

then there is this, hot I tell you, HOT
