Anker’s Cardigan Knit-a-long KAL

In cooperation with Picket Fence Quilt Co, I am hosting a summer KAL for the Anker’s Cardigan.
Pattern available for purchase through me (Ravelry shop purchase, it will be emailed directly to you and saved in your Ravelry library).

We did a class for the Anker’s Summer Shirt this last spring and found it a fast and fun knit. Unfortunately this top came in limited sizes. Fortunately that meant that we had the opportunity to learn how to do the math based on measurements to alter a pattern to get the right fit for our sizes.

The cardigan is knit using fingering/sport weight yarn, but many of us are using DK weight like the Summer shirt and doing a little math to get the right fit.

Picket Fence has a good selection of yarns in either the fingering/sport or DK weights, drop in to purchase and get a swatch done before starting our KAL.

Starting July 16th we’ll be meeting every 1st & 3rd Monday, 1pm at Picket Fence Quilt Co.

Come join us for some social fun!!

Summer Classes 2018

Happy Hot Summer, Wichita!!

I just returned from a lovely 10 day trip out west to the mountains where I spent a lot of time with family, relaxing, and enjoying hilly grandeur with pine trees. If you get a chance, visit the Cache Valley mountain range at some point; Logan and Bear Lake, UT would be my recommendations.

Now, on to classes for this summer at Picket Fence Quilt Co!

Registration will open for classes July 1st. Details and pricing will be available prior to registration.

We are already so close to July, and the Fiber Fling Retreat, that classes will start at the end of July giving everyone plenty of time to prep and purchase supplies for class.

First up,  Beginning Knitting Classes
Four weekly, 1.5 hour lessons teaching all the basics of knitting to get you well on your way to creating beautiful hand knits.
Learn two cast-ons, the knit & purl stitches, seed stitch, three most common increases, two most common decreases, and the basic bind off.
You will leave with a finished project and a wealth of knitting knowledge.

Four, 1.5 hour sessions, Wednesdays July 18th, 25th, August 1st & 8th, 1-2:30pm

Next Step Brioche
This class is for those that have worked the basic brioche stitch, flat or in the round, single or two color, and are ready to learn to increase & decrease, creating shapes and patterns within the brioche fabric.

We will be using the Staghorn pattern from Fresh Brioche by Nancy Marchant (brioche guru), and worsted weight yarns.

Two, 3 hour sessions, Wednesday July 25th & Thursday July 26th from 6-9pm

Sipila Sweater design by Boylandknitworks
This sweater!! Swoon.

This class will be for advanced beginners/intermediate+ knitters, colorwork experience is not required.

I used yarns from Daisy Hill Yarns and Madelintosh, but any two contrasting fingering or sport weight yarns can be used to create this beauty. We are hoping to work with Tara of Daisy Hill Yarns to carry her yarns in the shop prior to this class starting in August.

The pattern includes instructions for both the short sleeve top and the long sleeved sweater.
Pattern available for purchase through me (Ravelry shop purchase, it will be emailed directly to you and saved in your Ravelry library).

Three or four, 2 hour sessions, depending on your choice of short or long sleeves, Saturdays August 4th, 18th, September 1st & 15th if you choose long sleeves, 10am-12pm

If you are interested in classes that are not on the schedule please contact me!
Private lessons are always available, and it only takes 3 people to get a class on the schedule!

I am really looking forward to this round of classes and hope you are too.

What’s On Your Needles (and YouTube)?

While I have had a lot of shop sample and class knitting that is simple, stockinette in the round I have found a few new video podcasts to follow.
Not only have I subscribed, I have binge watched hundreds of episodes (and they are NOT short episodes :o) ).

Let me introduce you to a few new friends:

Sockmatician – Brilliant, funny, chatty, interesting view on how knit stitches work together to make beautiful fabrics. Really fantastic tutorials!

Bakery Bears – I love this couple. Dan is a new knitter (not any longer, but when they started their video podcast) and Kay is a wonderful knitter human being that loves beautiful colors. And bakes. Yummy things!

Arne & Carlos – Scandinavian male knitters. Enough said. They are no-holds-barred up-front with their knitting and techniques. Great tutorials as well.

If you can’t tell, I am on a male knitter kick at the moment.

It’s all due to my dream of my husband and sons picking up fiber of some sort with some sort of tool to make something; spinning, knitting, crochet, weaving, I don’t care, just create something!

On my needles for the shop samples, and an upcoming spring class at Picket Fence Quilt Co, is the Anker’s Summer Shirt.

The Cascade Sarasota, a cotton blend, top is already up on a mannequin at the shop in a great denim color, and I love it!
The second version on my needles is using Cascade Llamerino in 3 of the natural colors; cream, tan, light brown. Because it is a winter blend 50/50 llama/merino wool I am doing a longer sleeve version. This yarn is absolutely wonderful to knit with, soft hand yet it has some nice body to it. I can’t wait to have it done and blocked!

One ongoing class I have right now is the Keeping Warm Sweater. We are on the long slog of the stockinette body in the round before we get to the super fun mosaic bottom border. I love knitting with the Mirasol Sulka Legato yarn. It is so soft and smooth on the needles, with the ChiaoGoo Twist tips I am really huming along (when I have a few minutes to work on it).

Oh, and Wichita Knitters’ Guild March meeting is in just 2 days; Friends, Frogging & Fixing is the theme for this month.
Bring a friend, bring something to either frog or fix! We’ll help you with your frogging and fixing, swifts and ball winders will be present.
If you bring a friend you will both be entered in a prize drawing, if your friend joins the guild then you both get a small gift and you both will be entered in the prize drawing. So fun!!
We are also finishing up the East vs West charity knit-off. Can’t wait to add up all the points for both sides!! Teresa, our past president, has been really gung-ho on this competition. And just so you know, I have a LOT of donations + knit/crochet items, all for the East side!
